Six books on my November TBR/Book Haul! It's going to be a hard one, but I'm going to try my best. MICK AND MICHELLE - NINA ROSSING SYNOPSIS: Fifteen-year-old Mick Mullins has a great life: his parents are sweet, his sister is tolerable, and his friendships are solid. But as summer descends on Queens, he prepares to turn his carefree existence upside down by disclosing a secret he has kept long enough. It’s time to work up the courage to reveal that he is not a boy, but a girl—and that her name is Michelle. Having always been the perfect, good boy, Michelle is terrified that the complicated truth will disappoint, hurt, or push away the people closest to her. She can’t continue hiding for much longer, though, because her body is turning into that of a man’s, and she is desperate to stop the development—desperate enough to consider self-medicating with hormones. Most of all, Michelle fears that Grandpa, who is in a nursing home after a near fatal stroke, won’t survive the shock if he finds out that his favorite grandchild, and the only boy, is a girl. If she kills her beloved Grandpa by leaving Mick behind, she isn’t sure embracing her real identity will be worth the loss. A Netgalley find that I'm very excited for! ME MAM, ME DAD, ME - MALCOLM DUFFY SYNOPSIS: Danny’s mam has a new boyfriend. Initially, all is good – Callum seems nice enough, and Danny can’t deny he’s got a cool set up; big house, fast car, massive TV, and Mam seems to really like him. But cracks begin to show, and they’re not the sort that can be easily repaired. As Danny witnesses Mam suffer and Callum spiral out of control he goes in search of his dad. The Dad he’s never met. Another Netgalley find. It doesn't come out for another few months, so there's no cover yet. THERE'S SOMEONE INSIDE YOUR HOUSE - STEPHANIE PERKINS SYNOPSIS: One-by-one, the students of Osborne High are dying in a series of gruesome murders, each with increasing and grotesque flair. As the terror grows closer and the hunt intensifies for the killer, the dark secrets among them must finally be confronted. Take two for this one, as it was also on last month's TBR, but I ended up not having enough time. TURTLES ALL THE WAY DOWN - JOHN GREEN SYNOPSIS: Sixteen-year-old Aza never intended to pursue the mystery of fugitive billionaire Russell Pickett, but there’s a hundred-thousand-dollar reward at stake and her Best and Most Fearless Friend, Daisy, is eager to investigate. So together, they navigate the short distance and broad divides that separate them from Russell Pickett’s son, Davis. Aza is trying. She is trying to be a good daughter, a good friend, a good student, and maybe even a good detective, while also living within the ever-tightening spiral of her own thoughts. I think the reason I'm reading this one is self-explanatory. THE HEIR (THE SELECTION #4) - KIERA CASS SYNOPSIS: Princess Eadlyn has grown up hearing endless stories about how her mother and father met. Twenty years ago, America Singer entered the Selection and won the heart of Prince Maxon—and they lived happily ever after. Eadlyn has always found their fairy-tale story romantic, but she has no interest in trying to repeat it. If it were up to her, she'd put off marriage for as long as possible. But a princess's life is never entirely her own, and Eadlyn can't escape her very own Selection—no matter how fervently she protests. Eadlyn doesn't expect her story to end in romance. But as the competition begins, one entry may just capture Eadlyn's heart, showing her all the possibilities that lie in front of her . . . and proving that finding her own happily ever after isn't as impossible as she's always thought. It's finally time for me to read the fourth instalment in one of my favourite series!! THE CROWN (THE SELECTION #5) - KIERA CASS SYNOPSIS: When Eadlyn became the first princess of Illéa to hold her own Selection, she didn’t think she would fall in love with any of her thirty-five suitors. She spent the first few weeks of the competition counting down the days until she could send them all home. But as events at the palace force Eadlyn even further into the spotlight, she realizes that she might not be content remaining alone. Eadlyn still isn’t sure she’ll find the fairytale ending her parents did twenty years ago. But sometimes the heart has a way of surprising you…and soon Eadlyn must make a choice that feels more impossible—and more important—than she ever imagined. I went and picked up the last book in the series too. Might as well. That's my November TBR! What are you reading this month? Let me know!

This month's books will be themed around Halloween, of course! So get ready for some spooky books! ONE OF US IS LYING - KAREN M. MCCMANUS SYNOPSIS: Pay close attention and you might solve this. On Monday afternoon, five students at Bayview High walk into detention. Bronwyn, the brain, is Yale-bound and never breaks a rule. Addy, the beauty, is the picture-perfect homecoming princess. Nate, the criminal, is already on probation for dealing. Cooper, the athlete, is the all-star baseball pitcher. And Simon, the outcast, is the creator of Bayview High’s notorious gossip app. Only, Simon never makes it out of that classroom. Before the end of detention Simon's dead. And according to investigators, his death wasn’t an accident. On Monday, he died. But on Tuesday, he’d planned to post juicy reveals about all four of his high-profile classmates, which makes all four of them suspects in his murder. Or are they the perfect patsies for a killer who’s still on the loose? Everyone has secrets, right? What really matters is how far you would go to protect them. I accidentally got spoiled for this book by a book club on Instagram that posted a very very important fact in the first line of a picture description without putting a Spoiler alert, so although that's super disappointing I'm still very excited to read this! VANISHING GIRLS - LAUREN OLIVER SYNOPSIS: Dara and Nick used to be inseparable, but that was before the accident that left Dara's beautiful face scarred and the two sisters totally estranged. When Dara vanishes on her birthday, Nick thinks Dara is just playing around. But another girl, nine-year-old Madeline Snow, has vanished, too, and Nick becomes increasingly convinced that the two disappearances are linked. Now Nick has to find her sister, before it's too late. A good old scary mystery! I've been making myself wait for this till October but now that it's October I can finally read it!! CHECK-OUT - JUULTJE VAN DEN NIEUWENHOF SYNOPSIS: During a school trip, a group chat is made from the phone of a classmate who has died, another classmate gets into an accident and has to go to hospital, and scary snuff movies are found. During a performance of The Blue Man Group the classmates find out the truth about their classmate's death. I wasn't going to get this book as it's only available in Dutch, but it just sounds so creepy and awesome and it's only short anyway, so I'm going to squeeze it into this month! MICE - GORDON REECE SYNOPSIS: Shelley and her mom have been menaced long enough. Excused from high school where a trio of bullies nearly killed her, and still reeling from her parents' humiliating divorce, Shelley has retreated with her mother to the quiet of Honeysuckle Cottage in the countryside. Thinking their troubles are over, they revel in their cozy, secure life of gardening and books, hot chocolate and Brahms by the fire. But on the eve of Shelley's sixteenth birthday, an unwelcome guest disturbs their peace and something inside Shelley snaps. What happens next will shatter all their certainties-about their safety, their moral convictions, the limits of what they are willing to accept, and what they're capable of. This sounds like more of a psychological thriller than a proper scary one, but I'm going to give it a try anyway. It sounds cool! THE DROWNING - RACHEL WARD SYNOPSIS: What happens if you've done something terrible? But you can't remember what. And you don't know how to put it right ...When Carl opens his eyes on the banks of a lake, his brother is being zipped into a body bag. What happened in the water? He can't remember And when he glimpses a beautiful girl he thinks he recognizes, she runs away. Suddenly he knows he must find her - because together they must face the truth before it drowns them. I honestly have no idea what to expect from this, but it was marked "scary" by my library so here we go. By the time I'm posting this, I haven't got this book yet as it's not yet available on the Book Depository. I am planning on ordering it for my birthday (October 21!) so I'm hoping to get it in time to read it for Halloween Month! I LOVE STEPHANIE PERKINS!! Six books on my TBR for October. That's kind of optimistic, but I think I can do it! Look forward to a lot of Spooky themed blog posts this month!!
I just got 15 books off the Book Depository, but as I won't be able to read all of those this month anyway, I'll only list the ones I am hoping to read this month. I also got some books from other places, and I'm including one I already own as I really want to read it this month! A DANGEROUS YEAR (THE RILEY COLLINS SERIES #1) - KES TRESTER SYNOPSIS: Seventeen-year-old Riley Collins has grown up in some of the world’s most dangerous cities, learning political strategies from her ambassador dad and defensive skills from his security chief. The only thing they didn’t prepare her for: life as an American teenager. After an incident forces her to leave her Pakistani home, Riley is recruited by the State Department to attend Harrington Academy, one of the most elite boarding schools in Connecticut. The catch: she must use her tactical skills to covertly keep an eye on Hayden Frasier, the daughter of a tech billionaire whose new code-breaking spyware has the international intelligence community in an uproar. Disturbing signs begin to appear that Riley’s assignment wasn’t the walk in the park she’d been promised. Now, Riley must fight for her life and Hayden’s, as those around her reveal themselves to be true friends or the ultimate betrayers. I did not get this book off the Book Depository, but off Netgalley. I will be reading it in exchange for a review, as it will be out later this month! LOVE & GELATO - JENNA EVANS WELCH SYNOPSIS: Lina is spending the summer in Tuscany, but she isn’t in the mood for Italy’s famous sunshine and fairy-tale landscape. She’s only there because it was her mother’s dying wish that she get to know her father. But what kind of father isn’t around for sixteen years? All Lina wants to do is get back home. But then she is given a journal that her mom had kept when she lived in Italy. Suddenly Lina’s uncovering a magical world of secret romances, art, and hidden bakeries. A world that inspires Lina, along with the ever-so-charming Ren, to follow in her mother’s footsteps and unearth a secret that has been kept for far too long. It’s a secret that will change everything she knew about her mother, her father—and even herself. People come to Italy for love and gelato, someone tells her, but sometimes they discover much more. This one is from the library. I set a reservation on it in the middle of the Summer, but it didn't become available until last week, so I'm going to read it just before school starts again. The last Summer book of the year. I AM MALALA (YOUNG READERS EDITION) - MALALA YOUSAFZAI SYNOPSIS: "I am Malala. This is my story." Malala Yousafzai was only ten years old when the Taliban took control of her region. They said music was a crime. They said women weren't allowed to go to the market. They said girls couldn't go to school. Raised in a once-peaceful area of Pakistan transformed by terrorism, Malala was taught to stand up for what she believes. So she fought for her right to be educated. And on October 9, 2012, she nearly lost her life for the cause: She was shot point-blank while riding the bus on her way home from school. No one expected her to survive. Now she is an international symbol of peaceful protest and the youngest- ever Nobel Peace Prize nominee. In this Young Readers Edition of her bestselling memoir, which includes excessive photos and material, we hear firsthand the remarkable story of a girl who knew from a young age that she wanted to change the world-and did. I've been wanting to read more books that really matter, like The Hate U Give, and I've had this book for ages but never read it. I'm hoping to this month! WHEN DIMPLE MET RISHI - SANDHYA MENON SYNOPSIS: Dimple Shah has it all figured out. With graduation behind her, she’s more than ready for a break from her family, from Mamma’s inexplicable obsession with her finding the “Ideal Indian Husband.” Ugh. Dimple knows they must respect her principles on some level, though. If they truly believed she needed a husband right now, they wouldn’t have paid for her to attend a summer program for aspiring web developers…right? Rishi Patel is a hopeless romantic. So when his parents tell him that his future wife will be attending the same summer program as him—wherein he’ll have to woo her—he’s totally on board. Because as silly as it sounds to most people in his life, Rishi wants to be arranged, believes in the power of tradition, stability, and being a part of something much bigger than himself. Another important book; this one about arranged marriages. This one is very popular in the Bookstagram community as well. This one is off the Book Depository! EVERYTHING EVERYTHING - NICOLA YOON SYNOPSIS: My disease is as rare as it is famous. Basically, I’m allergic to the world. I don’t leave my house, have not left my house in seventeen years. The only people I ever see are my mom and my nurse, Carla. But then one day, a moving truck arrives next door. I look out my window, and I see him. He’s tall, lean and wearing all black—black T-shirt, black jeans, black sneakers, and a black knit cap that covers his hair completely. He catches me looking and stares at me. I stare right back. His name is Olly. Maybe we can’t predict the future, but we can predict some things. For example, I am certainly going to fall in love with Olly. It’s almost certainly going to be a disaster. The movie has just come out and I want to read the book before I see the film! THE DROWNING OF ARTHUR BRAXTON - CAROLINE SMAILES SYNOPSIS: Arthur Braxton runs away from school. He hides out in an abandoned building, an old Edwardian bathhouse. He discovers a naked woman swimming in the pool. From this point on, nothing will ever be the same. It took me way too long to get this book! Currently, Luke Cutforth, one of my favourite Youtubers, is working on the film, and I want to have read this before the film is released, which is hopefully very soon! (Also this book includes the introduction by Luke himself!! Very exciting!!) That's it for September's book haul! I think this will be enough books as school is starting back up, but I have some Italian books for practise in case I run out! Look forward to the reviews of these books!! I'll be honest: I went a bit overboard with this book haul! I have three of my own books (Starters by Lissa Price, City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments #1) and Malala's biography) on my TBR this month and got another 8 (oops) books from the library because I got a bit too excited. Not sure how many of these I will actually have time to read this month, but we're gonna give it a go! THE RED QUEEN (RED QUEEN #1) - VICTORIA AVEYARD SYNOPSIS: This is a world divided by blood – red or silver. The Reds are commoners, ruled by a Silver elite in possession of god-like superpowers. And to Mare Barrow, a seventeen-year-old Red girl from the poverty-stricken Stilts, it seems like nothing will ever change. That is, untIl she finds herself working in the Silver Palace. Here, surrounded by the people she hates the most, Mare discovers that, despite her red blood, she possesses a deadly power of her own. One that threatens to destroy the balance of power. Fearful of Mare’s potential, the Silvers hide her in plain view, declaring her a long-lost Silver princess, now engaged to a Silver prince. Despite knowing that one misstep would mean her death, Mare works silently to help the Red Guard, a militant resistance group, and bring down the Silver regime. But this is a world of betrayal and lies, and Mare has entered a dangerous dance – Reds against Silvers, prince against prince, and Mare against her own heart. My favourite 'Dance Moms' girl Chloe Lukasiak is very excited about this series, so I thought I'd give it a go. Yep. THE HATE U GIVE - ANGIE THOMAS SYNOPSIS: Sixteen-year-old Starr Carter moves between two worlds: the poor neighborhood where she lives and the fancy suburban prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. Khalil was unarmed. Soon afterward, his death is a national headline. Some are calling him a thug, maybe even a drug dealer and a gangbanger. Protesters are taking to the streets in Khalil's name. Some cops and the local drug lord try to intimidate Starr and her family. What everyone wants to know is: what really went down that night? And the only person alive who can answer that is Starr. But what Starr does or does not say could upend her community. It could also endanger her life. I am SO excited to read this one. It covers the very important topic of racism and police brutality in the United States and the Black Lives Matter movement could really do with a book that explains the problem to young adults! This book is so so important!! HELLO, GOODBYE, AND EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN - JENNIFER E. SMITH SYNOPSIS: On the night before they leave for college, Clare and Aidan have only one thing left to do: figure out whether they should stay together or break up. Over the course of twelve hours, they retrace the steps of their relationship, trying to find something in their past that might help them decide what their future should be. The night leads them to family and friends, familiar landmarks and unexpected places, hard truths and surprising revelations. But as the clock winds down and morning approaches, so does their inevitable goodbye. The question is, will it be goodbye for now or goodbye forever? A short, cute love story to just swoon over for a bit. Easy Summer read. LIBRARY OF SOULS (MISS PEREGRINE'S PECULIAR CHILDREN #3) - RANSOM RIGGS SYNOPSIS: As the story opens, sixteen-year-old Jacob discovers a powerful new ability, and soon he’s diving through history to rescue his peculiar companions from a heavily guarded fortress. Accompanying Jacob on his journey are Emma Bloom, a girl with fire at her fingertips, and Addison MacHenry, a dog with a nose for sniffing out lost children. They’ll travel from modern-day London to the labyrinthine alleys of Devil’s Acre, the most wretched slum in all of Victorian England. It’s a place where the fate of peculiar children everywhere will be decided once and for all. This one is LONG overdue! I read this series like last year and I even got this book a few months ago too, but I the return date came around before I could get to it... Can I just mention that this book is SO BIG and SO HEAVY!! THE ACCIDENTAL LIFE OF JESSIE JEFFERSON (JESSIE JEFFERSON #1) - PAIGE TOON SYNOPSIS: Meet Jessie, the daughter of Johnny Jefferson, as featured in Johnny Be Good and Baby Be Mine… My fifteenth birthday was the worst day of my life, and it's inconceivable to think that any single day in my future will ever be as bad. My mum was killed in a freak accident on her way to pick up my cake. Even when there was still no sign of her after two hours later, and my friends started to arrive at our house, it never occurred to me that she wouldn't be coming back. That was six months ago. My mum died without telling me who my real dad was. And for a while I hated her for it. I thought she's taken the secret of my father's identity with her forever. But she didn't. Holy hell, she didn't. Because three weeks ago I found out the truth. And I'm still reeling from the shock of it. My dad is none other than Johnny Jefferson, mega famous rock star and one-time serial womaniser. And now I'm on my way to LA to meet him and his family. My tiny little world has just got a whole lot bigger… According to Cosmopolitan this book is a "fun, summery chick-lit". Perfect. HEIR OF FIRE (THRONE OF GLASS #3) - SARAH J. MAAS SYNOPSIS: Celaena has survived deadly contests and shattering heartbreak―but at an unspeakable cost. Now, she must travel to a new land to confront her darkest truth . . . a truth about her heritage that could change her life―and her future―forever. Meanwhile, brutal and monstrous forces are gathering on the horizon, intent on enslaving her world. Will Celaena find the strength to not only fight her inner demons, but to take on the evil that is about to be unleashed? I wasn't super impressed with the previous book in this series, but I'm invested in the story now, so hopefully this one is a bit more thrilling, like the first book in the series, which was brilliant! EMMY & OLIVER - ROBIN BENWAY SYNOPSIS: Emmy’s best friend, Oliver, reappears after being kidnapped by his father ten years ago. Emmy hopes to pick up their relationship right where it left off. Are they destined to be together? Or has fate irreparably driven them apart? Another love story. It is Summer after all, so never enough contemporary romance YA. TWILIGHT (TWILIGHT #1) - STEPHANIE MEYER SYNOPSIS: About three things I was absolutely positive. First, Edward was a vampire. Second, there was a part of him—and I didn't know how dominant that part might be—that thirsted for my blood. And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him. I'm finally going to read Twilight. Another long overdue one, but what can I say, I haven't exactly heard loving praise for this series. But I'm going to give it a try! That's it for this Book Haul! We'll see how many of these books I can actually fit into August!! Let me know what you thought of these books if you've read them! Seven books to start off July with! We will see if that's enough for this month or if I'll end up doing another Mid-Month Haul like I did in June! THE ELITE (THE SELECTION #2) - KIERA CASS SYNOPSIS: The Selection began with thirty-five girls. Now with the group narrowed down to the six Elite, the competition to win Prince Maxon's heart is fiercer than ever—and America is still struggling to decide where her heart truly lies. Is it with Maxon, who could make her life a fairy tale? Or with her first love, Aspen? America is desperate for more time. But the rest of the Elite know exactly what they want—and America's chance to choose is about to slip away. After reading The Selection I was super excited to read the rest of the series, and I set a reservation for The Elite at my library right away, but I still don't have it. I got the Dutch version instead, so I'll read that if I don't get the English one on time. I really like this series so far so I'm excited! THE ONE (THE SELECTION #3) - KIERA CASS SYNOPSIS: The time has come for one winner to be crowned. When she was chosen to compete in the Selection, America never dreamed she would find herself anywhere close to the crown—or to Prince Maxon's heart. But as the end of the competition approaches, and the threats outside the palace walls grow more vicious, America realizes just how much she stands to lose—and how hard she'll have to fight for the future she wants. I have just copied and pasted the synopsis for this one from Goodreads without reading it, because I haven't read the second book yet and I don't want any spoilers! THE SELECTION STORIES (THE SELECTION #0,5 & #2,5) - KIERA CASS SYNOPSIS: Before America arrived at the palace to compete in the Selection, there was another girl in Prince Maxon's life. The Prince opens the week before the Selection begins and follows Maxon through the first day of the competition. Raised as a Six, Aspen Leger never dreamed that he would find himself living in the palace as a member of the royal guard. In The Guard, readers get an inside look at Aspen's life within the palace walls—and the truth about a guard's world that America will never know. Going to read this after I finish the first part of The Selection series! I will probably get the other two books in the series for August, or in my Mid-Month Haul if it gets to that this month! :) DID I MENTION I LOVE YOU? (DIMILY TRILOGY #1) - ESTELLE MASKAME SYNOPSIS: When sixteen-year-old Eden Munro agrees to spend the summer with her estranged father in the beachfront city of Santa Monica, California, she has no idea what she’s letting herself in for. Eden's parents are divorced and have gone their separate ways, and now her father has a brand new family. For Eden, this means she's about to meet three new step-brothers. The eldest of the three is Tyler Bruce, a troubled teenager with a short temper and a huge ego. Complete polar opposites, Eden quickly finds herself thrust into a world full of new experiences as Tyler's group of friends take her under their wing. But the one thing she just can't understand is Tyler, and the more she presses to figure out the truth about him, the more she finds herself falling for the one person she shouldn't – her step-brother. Throw in Tyler's clingy girlfriend and a guy who has his eyes set on Eden, and there's secrets, lies and a whole lot of drama. But how can Eden keep her feelings under control? And can she ever work out the truth about Tyler? Another must-read in the Bookstagram community, so I'll give it a try! THE LOST FILES (LORIEN LEGACIES: THE LOST FILES #1 #2 #3) - PITTACUS LORE SYNOPSIS: A book combined with Six's, Nine's and The Fallen's Legacies all in on paperback. Three little novellas from one of my favourite book series. CROWN OF MIDNIGHT (THRONE OF GLASS #2) - SARAH J. MAAS SYNOPSIS: From the throne of glass rules a king with a fist of iron and a soul as black as pitch. Assassin Celaena Sardothien won a brutal contest to become his Champion. Yet Celaena is far from loyal to the crown. She hides her secret vigilantly; she knows that the man she serves is bent on evil. Keeping up the deadly charade becomes increasingly difficult when Celaena realizes she is not the only one seeking justice. As she tries to untangle the mysteries buried deep within the glass castle, her closest relationships suffer. It seems no one is above questioning her allegiances—not the Crown Prince Dorian; not Chaol, the Captain of the Guard; not even her best friend, Nehemia, a foreign princess with a rebel heart. Then one terrible night, the secrets they have all been keeping lead to an unspeakable tragedy. As Celaena's world shatters, she will be forced to give up the very thing most precious to her and decide once and for all where her true loyalties lie... and whom she is ultimately willing to fight for. I LOVED Throne of Glass, so I'm super excited to read the sequel! I've heard that this one is even better than the first book in the series! ZENN DIAGRAM - WENDY BRANT SYNOPSIS: Eva Walker has literally one friend—if you don’t count her quadruplet three-year-old-siblings—and it’s not even because she’s a math nerd. No, Eva is a loner out of necessity, because everyone and everything around her is an emotional minefield. All she has to do is touch someone, or their shirt, or their cell phone, and she can read all their secrets, their insecurities, their fears. Sure, Eva’s “gift” comes in handy when she’s tutoring math and she can learn where people are struggling just by touching their calculators. For the most part, though, it’s safer to keep her hands to herself. Until she meets six-foot-three, cute-without-trying Zenn Bennett, who makes that nearly impossible. Zenn’s jacket gives Eva such a dark and violent vision that you’d think not touching him would be easy. But sometimes you have to take a risk… My love for maths made me interested in this book, but the reviews I've read for it so far have not been promising. I'll still read it though, so I can form my own opinion. That's it for this Start-Of-July Book Haul! Let me know if you've read any of these books and what you thought of them! Five library books and a book from the store (that I've already read, but loved so much that I want to own it too). Going to get started on some of the series that are very hyped on Bookstagram, so a bit of scifi/fantasy this Book Haul! THE SELECTION (THE SELECTION #1) - KIERA CASS SYNOPSIS: For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in a palace and compete for the heart of gorgeous Prince Maxon. But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn't want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks. Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she's made for herself—and realizes that the life she's always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined. This series is on my List of Books That Everyone In the YA Community Loves, so I've got to read it. Got just the first book in the series for now, but will get more if I like it! THRONE OF GLASS (THRONE OF GLASS #1) - SARAH J. MAAS SYNOPSIS: Meet Celaena Sardothien. Beautiful. Deadly. Destined for greatness. In the dark, filthy salt mines of Endovier, an eighteen-year-old girl is serving a life sentence. She is a trained assassin, the best of her kind, but she made a fatal mistake. She got caught. Young Captain Westfall offers her a deal: her freedom in return for one huge sacrifice. Celaena must represent the prince in a to-the-death tournament—fighting the most gifted thieves and assassins in the land. Live or die, Celaena will be free. Win or lose, she is about to discover her true destiny. But will her assassin’s heart be melted? This one is also on the list of series that the YA community loves, so I'm going to give this one a shot too! SILENCE IS GOLDFISH - ANNABEL PITCHER SYNOPSIS: My name is Tess Turner - at least, that's what I've always been told. I have a voice but it isn't mine. It used to say things so I'd fit in, to please my parents, to please my teachers. It used to tell the universe I was something I wasn't. It lied. It never occurred to me that everyone else was lying too. But the words that really hurt weren't the lies: it was six hundred and seventeen words of truth that turned my world upside down. Words scare me, the lies and the truth, so I decided to stop using them. I am Pluto. Silent. Inaccessible. Billions of miles away from everything I thought I knew. Tessie-T has never really felt she fitted in and after what she read that night on her father's blog she knows for certain that she never will. How she deals with her discovery makes an entirely riveting, heart-breaking story told through Tess's eyes as she tries to find her place in the world. This book is written by the same author as Under the Ketchup Clouds, which I really liked. Neither of those books are very hyped in the community, but I think Under the Ketchup Clouds is worthy of more praise than it gets and I hope Silence Is Goldfish lives up to my expectations as well! GONE (GONE #1) - MICHAEL GRANT SYNOPSIS: In the blink of an eye, everyone disappears. Gone. Except for the young. There are teens, but not one single adult. Just as suddenly, there are no phones, no internet, no television. No way to get help. And no way to figure out what's happened. Hunger threatens. Bullies rule. A sinister creature lurks. Animals are mutating. And the teens themselves are changing, developing new talents—unimaginable, dangerous, deadly powers—that grow stronger by the day. It's a terrifying new world. Sides are being chosen, a fight is shaping up. Townies against rich kids. Bullies against the weak. Powerful against powerless. And time is running out: On your 15th birthday, you disappear just like everyone else... I've already read the entire Gone series (link to my review here!) but I don't own them. I got all the books from the library when I read them, but I love this series a lot and the books were all on sale for 7 euros a piece. I only bought one of them because I don't know if it's worth buying an entire series that I've already read just for aesthetical reasons ;) That's it for this random middle-of-June haul! I finished my June Haul books much earlier than expected, so more books were needed! Let me know if you've read any of these books and what you thought of them!
Again, three book from the library, but this time also one book that I actually bought! I stood with it in my hands in the bookshop for about five minutes debating whether or not to get it there instead of on the bookdepository, but we need to support bookstores too!! (Also it looked so pretty I didn't want to put it back down) UNITED AS ONE (LORIEN LEGACIES #7) - PITTACUS LORE SYNOPSIS: The Mogadorians have invaded Earth. Their warships loom over our most populated cities, and no country will risk taking them head on. The Garde are all that stand in the way, but they’ll need an army of their own to win this fight. They’ve teamed up with the US military, but it might not be enough. The Garde need reinforcements, and they’ve found them in the most unexpected place. Teenagers from across the globe, like John Smith’s best friend, Sam, have developed abilities. So John and the others must get to them before the Mogs, because if they don’t their enemies will use these gifted teens for their own sinister plan. But after all the Mogadorians have taken from John—his home, his family, his friends, and the person he loves most—he might not want to put any more lives in danger. He’s got nothing left to lose, and he’s just discovered he has been given an incredible new Legacy. Now he can turn himself into the ultimate weapon. So will he risk his life to save the world, or will he realize that power in numbers will save us all? This is 100% one of my favourite series ever, which is why I actually bought it instead of waiting for my library to get it. This is the last book in the series and I'm sad to see it end, but I'm so excited to find out what happens! ANNA AND THE FRENCH KISS - STEPHANIE PERKINS SYNOPSIS: Anna is looking forward to her senior year in Atlanta, where she has a great job, a loyal best friend, and a crush on the verge of becoming more. Which is why she is less than thrilled about being shipped off to boarding school in Paris--until she meets Étienne St. Clair. Smart, charming, beautiful, Étienne has it all...including a serious girlfriend. But in the City of Light, wishes have a way of coming true. Will a year of romantic near-misses end with their long-awaited French kiss? This is one of those books that is so hyped up by the Bookstagram community that I just have to read it or I'll feel left out! ;) LOLA AND THE BOY NEXT DOOR - STEPHANIE PERKINS SYNOPSIS: Lola Nolan is a budding costume designer, and for her, the more outrageous, sparkly, and fun the outfit, the better. And everything is pretty perfect in her life (right down to her hot rocker boyfriend) until the Bell twins, Calliope and Cricket, return to the neighborhood. When Cricket, a gifted inventor, steps out from his twin sister's shadow and back into Lola's life, she must finally reconcile a lifetime of feelings for the boy next door. The second book by Stephanie Perkins that the Bookstagram community loves. There's a third book called Isla and the Happily Ever After but I don't read as much hype about that, and my library doesn't have it. If I really love these two, I might request it at my library or buy it myself! I'LL GIVE YOU THE SUN - JANDY NELSON SYNOPSIS: Jude and her twin brother, Noah, are incredibly close. At thirteen, isolated Noah draws constantly and is falling in love with the charismatic boy next door, while daredevil Jude cliff-dives and wears red-red lipstick and does the talking for both of them. But three years later, Jude and Noah are barely speaking. Something has happened to wreck the twins in different and dramatic ways . . . until Jude meets a cocky, broken, beautiful boy, as well as someone else—an even more unpredictable new force in her life. The early years are Noah's story to tell. The later years are Jude's. What the twins don't realize is that they each have only half the story, and if they could just find their way back to one another, they’d have a chance to remake their world. Another book that I've seen a lot of hype about. It's quite big so it might take me a while, but the plot sounds interesting + LGBT representation which is always good! That's it for my June haul! Let me know if you've read any of these books and what you thought of them! Another library haul! I usually only get a few books at a time, because I go to the library in the city and I don't want to have to drag all these heavy books with me on the train back home! GOING ROGUE (ALSO KNOWN AS #2) - ROBIN BENWAY SYNOPSIS: Being permanently based in a local New York City high school as an undercover operative has its moments, good and bad, for 16-year-old safecracker Maggie Silver. Pros: More quality time with her former mark-turned-boyfriend Jesse Oliver and insanely cool best friend, Roux. Getting to spend quality time with her semi-retired and international spy honorary uncle, Angelo. Cons: High school and the accompanying cliques, bad lunches, and frustratingly simple locker combinations. But when Maggie's parents are falsely accused of stealing priceless gold coins, Maggie uses her safecracking skills to try and clear their names. Too bad it only serves to put her and everyone she loves in danger. Maggie and her "new team" flee to Paris where they must come up with a plan to defeat their former allies. I read the first book in this series a long time ago, and I remember really liking it. I don't remember that much of the plot though, so I'll have to read the Wikipedia page on it first ;) FINDING AUDREY - SOPHIE KINSELLA SYNOPSIS: An anxiety disorder disrupts fourteen-year-old Audrey’s daily life. She has been making slow but steady progress with Dr. Sarah, but when Audrey meets Linus, her brother’s gaming teammate, she is energized. She connects with him. Audrey can talk through her fears with Linus in a way she’s never been able to do with anyone before. As their friendship deepens and her recovery gains momentum, a sweet romantic connection develops, one that helps not just Audrey but also her entire family. To be real with you; I didn't pick this book because of the cover or the plot or anything. I've just seen this book a lot on Instagram so I wanted to see what the hype was about. Now that I've read the synopsis I am intrigued though, so I'm looking forward to reading this. THE DEATH GAME (TEAM MORTIS #3) - BJORN VAN DEN EYNDE SYNOPSIS: Two teenagers meet their ends in an underground labyrinth in Budapest, Hungary, when they are forced to play the "Death Game". Several explosives reshape the labyrinth and Hero Square into a chaotic sea of flames. But victims Yaryna Zornow and Henrique Aguilar weren't normal teenagers. They were members of Team Mortis. Brian Bailey and Filip Huistra hope that the incident is a one-off, but soon enough the maker of the "Death Game" makes contact again. This time he challenges two new members of Team Mortis. One of them is a 16 year old girl with red hair and blue eyes, Erika Storm. Her objective: travel to Dhlà Ves, Slovakia, and play the "Death Game". The stakes: dozens of innocent lives. Erika has no choice but to comply. What's driving the maker of the game? What he says goes, or else.. Alright, this is not going to be interesting for most of you, as this book has, as far as I know, not been translated into English. This series isn't spectacular anyway, as it has one of those protagonists who keeps mentioning that she's not pretty and she's so skinny and small, and of course very special so she just has to have red hair. That's the kind of book this is. The mysteries in this series are good though, so when reading this I'll just roll my eyes at the annoying "she's so skinny" and "tiny body" remarks and move on. That's it for this haul! Let me know if you've read any of these books and tell me your thoughts! My first book haul! From the library, that is; I can't afford to buy all my books.. ANOTHER DAY - DAVID LEVITHAN SYNOPSIS: Every day is the same for Rhiannon. She has accepted her life, convinced herself that she deserves her distant, temperamental boyfriend, Justin, even established guidelines by which to live: Don’t be too needy. Avoid upsetting him. Never get your hopes up. Until the morning everything changes. Justin seems to see her, to want to be with her for the first time, and they share a perfect day—a perfect day Justin doesn’t remember the next morning. Confused, depressed, and desperate for another day as great as that one, Rhiannon starts questioning everything. Then, one day, a stranger tells her that the Justin she spent that day with, the one who made her feel like a real person…wasn’t Justin at all. I'm super excited to read this! Even though I only just realised that it's a companion novel and I haven't read the original.. Oops. From what I have read it can probably be read without reading Every Day first. David Levithan is honestly one of my favourite authors so I'm looking forward to reading this! I WAS HERE - GAYLE FORMAN SYNOPSIS: When her best friend Meg drinks a bottle of industrial-strength cleaner alone in a motel room, Cody is understandably shocked and devastated. She and Meg shared everything—so how was there no warning? But when Cody travels to Meg’s college town to pack up the belongings left behind, she discovers that there’s a lot that Meg never told her. About her old roommates, the sort of people Cody never would have met in her dead-end small town in Washington. About Ben McAllister, the boy with a guitar and a sneer, who broke Meg’s heart. And about an encrypted computer file that Cody can’t open—until she does, and suddenly everything Cody thought she knew about her best friend’s death gets thrown into question. I read If I Stay by the same author and I just connected so much with the characters so I have high expectations for I Was Here as well. The story sounds really interesting and I've been wanting to read more ' basic drama stuff' instead of all the scifi and fantasy that I usually read! THE POTION DIARIES - AMY ALWARD SYNOPSIS: When the Princess of Nova accidentally poisons herself with a love potion meant for her crush, she falls crown-over-heels in love with her own reflection. Oops. A nationwide hunt is called to find the cure, with competitors travelling the world for the rarest ingredients, deep in magical forests and frozen tundras, facing death at every turn. Enter Samantha Kemi - an ordinary girl with an extraordinary talent. Sam's family were once the most respected alchemists in the kingdom, but they've fallen on hard times, and winning the hunt would save their reputation. But can Sam really compete with the dazzling powers of the ZoroAster megapharma company? Just how close is Sam willing to get to Zain Aster, her dashing former classmate and enemy, in the meantime? I know, I know. I just said I want to read more ' basic drama stuff', but that doesn't mean I'm going to read less scifi and fantasy too! I wanted to read this as it's a part of Zoe's book club (Zoe as in Zoella from YouTube) and I have already read some other books from her list and liked them, so I figured she has a good taste in books and I should read some more of her recommendations! Let me know if you've read any of these books and what you thought of them! :) |
