The three things I personally love most are the love story, the modelling, and geekiness. I found a book that fits with each of those three things, so you can pick which aspect you liked best to find yourself a new read! Girl Online series - Zoe SuggSYNOPSIS: I had no idea GirlOnline would take off the way it has - I can't believe I now have 5432 followers, thanks so much! - and the thought of opening up to you all about this is terrifying, but here goes... Penny has a secret. Under the alias GirlOnline, she blogs about school dramas, boys, her mad, whirlwind family - and the panic attacks she's suffered from lately. When things go from bad to worse, her family whisks her away to New York, where she meets the gorgeous, guitar-strumming Noah. Suddenly Penny is falling in love - and capturing every moment of it on her blog. But Noah has a secret too. One that threatens to ruin Penny's cover - and her closest friendship - forever. In Girl Online, the main character herself is not a singer. Her boyfriend, however, is a famous singer, which allows Penny to give us a look into his world! Girl Online is a must-read for every Geek Girl fan, as it has the same fast pace, some small mysteries to be solved by the main character and the reader, and, of course, a cute love interest! Dramarama - E. LockhartSYNOPSIS: Two theater-mad, self-invented fabulositon Ohio teenagers. One boy, one girl. One gay, one straight. One black, one white. And SUMMER DRAMA CAMP. It's a season of hormones, gold lame, hissy fits, jazz hands, song and dance, true love, and unitards that will determine their future --and test their friendship. Dramarama is about a drama camp, so rather than modelling it is about acting. Harriet has some very strong friendship, and if you like the friendship drama, this book is full of that too! This book is a bit less innocent than Geek Girl, but still fine for the same audience. Dramarama is full of drama, not just in acting but also in friendship drama! SYNOPSIS: Cath is a Simon Snow fan. Okay, the whole world is a Simon Snow fan... But for Cath, being a fan is her life—and she’s really good at it. She and her twin sister, Wren, ensconced themselves in the Simon Snow series when they were just kids; it’s what got them through their mother leaving. Reading. Rereading. Hanging out in Simon Snow forums, writing Simon Snow fan fiction, dressing up like the characters for every movie premiere. Cath’s sister has mostly grown away from fandom, but Cath can’t let go. She doesn’t want to. Now that they’re going to college, Wren has told Cath she doesn’t want to be roommates. Cath is on her own, completely outside of her comfort zone. She’s got a surly roommate with a charming, always-around boyfriend, a fiction-writing professor who thinks fan fiction is the end of the civilized world, a handsome classmate who only wants to talk about words... And she can’t stop worrying about her dad, who’s loving and fragile and has never really been alone. For Cath, the question is: Can she do this? Can she make it without Wren holding her hand? Is she ready to start living her own life? Writing her own stories? And does she even want to move on if it means leaving Simon Snow behind? I love Fangirl! This last recommendation is related to being nerdy. If you loved the nerdy aspect of Geek Girl, then this will be great for you. Cath is a different type of nerd than Harriet, in that she's a fandom nerd rather than an information nerd. Fangirl is also for slightly older people than Geek Girl, but I loved both, so that doesn't need to matter! I hope you enjoyed this Read Alike! If you've read any of these books, let me know in the comments what you thought of them!

I am a Ravenclaw inside out, and there's quite a few main characters that I think are my housemates. Here are a few books I think Ravenclaws would like and also some books with Ravenclaws as main characters. Finding Audrey - Sophie KinsellaI think Ravenclaws would like this book, because it's intriguing and gives a perspective into the mind of someone with severe anxiety, which I think is perspective most of us wouldn't usually be able to get. It's informative and broadening. Another Day (#2) - David LevithanI don't know about Every Day, the first part of this series, but Another Day was clever and original. I think Ravenclaws would like the psychological aspect and the fact that it makes you think. We Were Liars - E. LockhartThis book is filled with mystery and hints are given so the reader can try to figure out the answers for themselves. It's a fun puzzle Geek Girl - Holly SmaleHarriet from Geek Girl is 100% a Ravenclaw. No doubt in my mind. She loves facts and learning, and puts it above everything else. She also loves school, but that's not a requirement for Ravenclaws. The Potion Diaries - Amy AlwardI'm less sure about Sam than I am about Harriet, as I feel like Sam could also be a Gryffindor as she's very courageous. But I think she's more of a Ravenclaw because the base of her being is her potion-making and I think her talent and love for that is a definite Ravenclaw thing. What main characters do you think are Ravenclaws? Let me know!
SYNOPSIS: Three teenagers are going on the trip of a lifetime. Only one is coming back. It's been more than forty years since NASA sent the first men to the moon, and to grab some much-needed funding and attention, they decide to launch an historic international lottery in which three lucky teenagers can win a week-long trip to moon base DARLAH 2. Rating: 5/5
If you've read my reviews before, you'll know that I rarely give books a 5 star rating, so this really is a special one to me. This book was a true game changer. Before it, I didn't think books could scare you the way a horror movie can, but I learnt that they definitely can. 172 Hours on the Moon is so thrilling and scary that I got goosebumps multiple times. I kept skipping ahead and having to call myself back because I was just so anxious to find out what would happen next. This book brilliantly weaved in the WOW-signal, which is the only 'message' we've ever received from space. The code for it is 6EQUJ5 and the characters keep seeing parts of it throughout their journey. That should tell them that this whole going to the moon thing might not be a good idea. Also the elderly man who was involved with the moonlanding in 1969 who's desperately trying to keep people from going there again. Everything is telling these people not to go to the moon, but they go anyway. If there's so many things screaming at you not to go, there can only be something horrific waiting for you there. And there is. Of the three main characters, it is clear that we are supposed to favour Mia, as she becomes the most important one. This was the only disappointing part of this book, as I would've liked to get to know the other two, Antoine and Midori, a bit better. The storyline makes up for this 100% though, as I didn't even have time to care about in-depth character development. I was just so into this story. I realise that this review has read like more of an advertisement than a review, but that's because I just love this book so much! If you like scary things, you will love this book. I promise. Goodreads: www.goodreads.com/book/show/12810834-172-hours-on-the-moon Amazon: www.amazon.com/172-Hours-Moon-Johan-Harstad/dp/0316182893 Again, three book from the library, but this time also one book that I actually bought! I stood with it in my hands in the bookshop for about five minutes debating whether or not to get it there instead of on the bookdepository, but we need to support bookstores too!! (Also it looked so pretty I didn't want to put it back down) UNITED AS ONE (LORIEN LEGACIES #7) - PITTACUS LORE SYNOPSIS: The Mogadorians have invaded Earth. Their warships loom over our most populated cities, and no country will risk taking them head on. The Garde are all that stand in the way, but they’ll need an army of their own to win this fight. They’ve teamed up with the US military, but it might not be enough. The Garde need reinforcements, and they’ve found them in the most unexpected place. Teenagers from across the globe, like John Smith’s best friend, Sam, have developed abilities. So John and the others must get to them before the Mogs, because if they don’t their enemies will use these gifted teens for their own sinister plan. But after all the Mogadorians have taken from John—his home, his family, his friends, and the person he loves most—he might not want to put any more lives in danger. He’s got nothing left to lose, and he’s just discovered he has been given an incredible new Legacy. Now he can turn himself into the ultimate weapon. So will he risk his life to save the world, or will he realize that power in numbers will save us all? This is 100% one of my favourite series ever, which is why I actually bought it instead of waiting for my library to get it. This is the last book in the series and I'm sad to see it end, but I'm so excited to find out what happens! ANNA AND THE FRENCH KISS - STEPHANIE PERKINS SYNOPSIS: Anna is looking forward to her senior year in Atlanta, where she has a great job, a loyal best friend, and a crush on the verge of becoming more. Which is why she is less than thrilled about being shipped off to boarding school in Paris--until she meets Étienne St. Clair. Smart, charming, beautiful, Étienne has it all...including a serious girlfriend. But in the City of Light, wishes have a way of coming true. Will a year of romantic near-misses end with their long-awaited French kiss? This is one of those books that is so hyped up by the Bookstagram community that I just have to read it or I'll feel left out! ;) LOLA AND THE BOY NEXT DOOR - STEPHANIE PERKINS SYNOPSIS: Lola Nolan is a budding costume designer, and for her, the more outrageous, sparkly, and fun the outfit, the better. And everything is pretty perfect in her life (right down to her hot rocker boyfriend) until the Bell twins, Calliope and Cricket, return to the neighborhood. When Cricket, a gifted inventor, steps out from his twin sister's shadow and back into Lola's life, she must finally reconcile a lifetime of feelings for the boy next door. The second book by Stephanie Perkins that the Bookstagram community loves. There's a third book called Isla and the Happily Ever After but I don't read as much hype about that, and my library doesn't have it. If I really love these two, I might request it at my library or buy it myself! I'LL GIVE YOU THE SUN - JANDY NELSON SYNOPSIS: Jude and her twin brother, Noah, are incredibly close. At thirteen, isolated Noah draws constantly and is falling in love with the charismatic boy next door, while daredevil Jude cliff-dives and wears red-red lipstick and does the talking for both of them. But three years later, Jude and Noah are barely speaking. Something has happened to wreck the twins in different and dramatic ways . . . until Jude meets a cocky, broken, beautiful boy, as well as someone else—an even more unpredictable new force in her life. The early years are Noah's story to tell. The later years are Jude's. What the twins don't realize is that they each have only half the story, and if they could just find their way back to one another, they’d have a chance to remake their world. Another book that I've seen a lot of hype about. It's quite big so it might take me a while, but the plot sounds interesting + LGBT representation which is always good! That's it for my June haul! Let me know if you've read any of these books and what you thought of them! |
