I can keep this quite short as I was in a bit of a reading slump in January.. I only read two books and yes I am ashamed.. My True Love Gave to Me - Edited by Stephanie PerkinsSYNOPSIS: Twelve holiday stories by twelve YA authors. Rating: 5/5 WOW I loved this!! I loved all of these stories, and yes I'm including the super bizarre ones. SYNOPSIS: Evie's father left her a virtual reality game to help her deal with tough times. Rating: 3/5 Eh. This was enjoyable, but the story was rushed, I didn't like the colours, and Joe Sugg didn't actually write it. Full review will be up soon. That's all.. More books in February, I hope!

Only a month late, here is my December 2017 wrap-up! A little Christmas throwback in February- the weather here is more Christmas-y than it was at Christmas anyway! The Heir (The Selection #4)SYNOPSIS: America and Maxon's daughter holds her own Selection. Rating: 4/5 Quite enjoyable. I preferred the original trilogy as I found Eadlyn to be insufferable. The Crown (The Selection #5)SYNOPSIS: Eadlyn's Selection comes to an end. Rating: 3/5 This was about the same as book #4. The ending managed to surprise me, which I guess is good in some way, but also bad as it felt kind of rushed and deus ex machina-ish. Decked with Holly - Marni BatesSYNOPSIS: Holly ends up having to pretend to be a famous singer's girlfriend. Rating: 3/5 I don't like slut shaming, but I do like celebrity romances and Christmas, so this was a difficult one for me. Full review here. What Light - Jay AsherSYNOPSIS: Sierra falls in love with a boy with a secret while she is in California selling Christmas trees in December. Rating: 4/5 Yes!! I liked this a lot!! Once I got over how bizarre the " secret " is this was very enjoyable and cute. Also very Christmas-y! Kindred Spirits - Rainbow RowellSYNOPSIS: Elena waits in line for the Star Wars movie premiere. Rating: 3/5 Short and sweet. A good number of books for December!
Finally, my November wrap-up is here!! Sorry it's so late, but my phone was in repairs for a while and it completely threw me off track. I'll try to pull myself together asap! There's Someone Inside Your House - Stephanie PerkinsSYNOPSIS: Makani's schoolmates in her new town suddenly start being killed in horrific ways. Rating: 5/5 This was WILD. Full review here! Me Mam, Me Dad, Me - Malcolm DuffySYNOPSIS: Danny's mam's new boyfriend is violent, and he tries his best to help her. Rating: 4/5 I really liked this! I will be posting a review of this nearer to when the book actually comes out, so look forward to that! Mick & Michelle - Nina RossingSYNOPSIS: Mick's got everything in order, except for one little thing. He's not actually Mick. He's Michelle. Rating: 4/5 Really, really good. Very raw and real, but also made me feel happy. Full review will be up soon! Only three books in November! Quite disappointed with this count, but I'm hoping to get some good Christmas books in this December!
Seven books this September! A good count. I finished up my Summer reads and when school started I got back into my normal books. Hello, Goodbye, and Everything in Between - Jennifer E. SmithSYNOPSIS: In the last night before they go off to different colleges, Claire and Aidan revisit old memories and try to decide what to do with their relationship. Rating: 4/5 This book was a fun read, that got better near the end. Link to my full review here! Love & Gelato - Jenna Evans WelchSYNOPSIS: Lina spends the Summer with her estranged father in Italy after her mother passes away, and learns more about her by reading her mum's old diaries. Rating: 4/5 A cute story about love, both familial and romantic, set in my fatherland and one of my favourite countries in the world. Everything Everything - Nicola YoonSYNOPSIS: Chronically ill Madeleine, who hasn't been allowed outside in seventeen years, falls in love with the boy next door. Rating: 5/5 THERE ARE PICTURES!! This book was a 4/5 for me, until the ending which blew me away and made this a solid 5/5. Full review will be up soon! A Dangerous Year (Riley Collins #1) - Kes TresterSYNOPSIS: Daughter of an American ambassador Riley Collins is sent to an American boarding school to try and protect the daughter of a technical genius. Rating 4/5 A great story which would've been a 5/5 if it hadn't been for this one thing that I really disliked. Full review here! The Drowning of Arthur Braxton - Caroline SmailesSYNOPSIS: Arthur Braxton finds a naked girl swimming in a pool in an abandoned bathhouse and nothing will ever be the same again. Rating: 4/5 This book was super bizarre from start to finish, but I loved that! My only negative point is that there was too much talk of genitalia. Full review will be up soon! I Am Malala - Malala YousafzaiSYNOPSIS: Malala's story. Rating: 5/5 Absolutely amazing. An insight into the lives of people in Pakistan, which is hard for us Westerners to imagine, and the story of the girl who will fight until all girls can go to school. Full review will be up soon! Coraline - Neil GaimanSYNOPSIS: Coraline finds a secret door that leads to the Other apartment. Rating: 4/5 This was the first Neil Gaiman book I've read and I loved it so much! It's very different from the movie but they were both so creepy and cool! That's it for September! What did you read in September? Let me know!
I read a record number of books this month!! I read 12! I'm very happy with this number especially because some of these books were huge so they would significantly bring down my count in a school month. I was on holiday for half the month, which probably helped as all I did was read there! Secret Histories (Lorien Legacies: The Lost Files (#4-#6) - Pittacus LoreSYNOPSIS: Novellas about the Lorien Legacies characters. Rating: 4/5 I love Adam, so I really enjoyed learning more about his life. The Hate U Give - Angie ThomasSYNOPSIS: Starr's friend gets shot by a racist police officer. Rating: 5/5 I think this is a really important book, as the theme is very relevant to today's society in the United States and thus the reality of many young adults. It was also brilliantly written and I loved it a lot! Link to full review here. Heir of Fire (Throne of Glass #3) - Sarah J. MaasSYNOPSIS: Celaena trains with Rowan, Chaol joins the resistance, Dorian dates a healer. Rating: 4/5 This was enjoyable, but the main storyline wasn't nearly as interesting to me as Chaol's and the witches'. This story is super intriguing but all these books in the series seem to have such a slow start.. Full review will be up soon! Emmy & Oliver - Robin BenwaySYNOPSIS: Emmy's friend Oliver returns ten years after being abducted by his father. Rating: 5/5 Some books just make perfect sense and work in every single way. This was one of those books for me. I can't really explain why, but I just really loved it. Full review will be up soon! The accidental life of Jessie Jefferson (#1) - Paige ToonSYNOPSIS: After the death of her mother, troublemaker Jessie discovers her real father is a rockstar. Rating: 3/5 This was an enjoyable read, but it annoyed me a bit too much at times. Full review here! Attachments - Rainbow RowellSYNOPSIS: Lincoln's job is to read other people's email and decide whether there is a problem with them. He ends up reading two women's correspondence more than necessary and falling in love. Rating: 4/5 This isn't an YA book, but Rainbow Rowell is one of my favourite authors so I made an exception for her. I loved this book! It was fun and easy to read. Il Viaggio Di ArloSYNOPSIS: Book companion to the movie The Good Dinosaur. Rating: 5/5 I love the Capolavori series with all my heart. The pictures are amazing and I will share some of them with you at the end of this post!! Harry Potter and the Cursed Child - J.K. RowlingSYNOPSIS: A Harry Potter epilogue. Rating: 3/5 This was a nice read, but I didn't care that much for it. Libary of Souls (Miss Peregrine #3) - Ransom RiggsSYNOPSIS: Emma and Jacob hurry to save their friends with the help of Addison, the talking dog. Rating: 4/5 A good ending of a good series. I always liked how the series incorporated pictures into the story, and this one more than the others felt like it was really being led by the pictures. Full review will be up soon! Twilight (Twilight #1) - Stephanie MeyerSYNOPSIS: Bella falls in love with a boy who turns out to be a vampire. Rating: 2/5 Listen, I really tried to like this but the sexism was just too overwhelming. Full review here (including a list of sexist points). Red Queen (Red Queen #1) - Victoria AveyardSYNOPSIS: A red from the working class, Mare, turns out to have powers that should only be reserved for the Silver, and she is launched into the world of the rich. Rating: 5/5 This was a brilliant book! I loved it from start to finish and it kept me guessing the whole time. Full review will be up soon! King Lear - ShakespeareSYNOPSIS: A king wants to divide his land between his three daughters, but everything that can go wrong, does go wrong. Rating: 2/5 This was something I had to read for school. I didn't enjoy it as I just really dislike having to decipher a story rather than read it. That's it for August! What did you read in August? Let me know!
Nine books this month! A pretty decent count, if I do say so myself, considering I had my end-of-year exams and all. Going Rogue (Also Known As #2) - Robin BenwaySYNOPSIS: Maggie's parents are falsely accused of stealing coins from the Collective and they are forced to flee the country. Rating: 4/5 An enjoyable read, as expected. This series is a nice lowkey relaxation. Anna & the French Kiss - Stephanie PerkinsSYNOPSIS: Anna's father decides it is a good idea for her to spend her last year of High School at a boarding school in Paris. Full review here. The Selection (The Selection #1) - Kiera CassSYNOPSIS: America is chosen to be one of the 35 potential brides for the future King. Rating: 4/5 This is a simple and lovely read and I look forward to reading the rest of the series. Full review here. Silence Is Goldfish - Annabel PitcherSYNOPSIS: Tess discovers her father is not her biological father, and she refuses to speak from then on in retaliation. Rating: 4/5 I read this because I liked Under The Ketchup Clouds, from the same author, a lot. I liked this book even more! Full review here. Throne Of Glass (Throne Of Glass #1) - Sarah J. MaasSYNOPSIS: Assassin Caelena is taken out of her forced labour camp to compete in the King's competition to find his Champion, who will do his bidding for him and become the court Assassin. Rating: 5/5 An incredibly compelling book that made everything else in life seem a lot less important when I was reading it. Full review here. The Black Sun (Team Mortis #4) - Bjorn van den Eynde SYNOPSIS: A teen actress is found dead and her case is connected to mass suicides among a cult of teenagers. Team Mortis investigates. Rating: 3/5 I swear, if the plots weren't so good I would never touch one of these books. Every girl is skinny and hit on, boys always know better, and girls can't properly do anything on their own. A good reading month overall! Let me know if you've read any of these books and what you thought of them! |
